270th ECB: Documents: Morning Report

This morning report is dated 13 March, 1945. The reports usually detailed company strength, any reductions in rank, promotions, transfers and casualties. This particular report details a change in MOS (Military Occupation Specialty) for the soldiers listed. The numbers are description of the primary job of the soldier. Military Occupation Specialty: Explanations

The following MOS numbers were taken from C/270 Morning Reports for the period Feb. 1 - May 15, 1945. Explanations are from TM12-427 dated 12 July 1944.

014 Automotive Mechanic (2nd Echelon) Inspects and performs first and second echelon organizational maintenance service and repairs on gasoline powered vehicles, including motorcycles.
035 Carpenter, Heavy Construction: Builds and repairs wooden structures made from heavy timbers and planking.
050 Carpenter, General: Performs a variety of carpenter tasks in connection with the construction and repair of buildings, drainage systems, waterworks, airports, motion picture sets and related structures.
055 Clerk, General: Performs a variety of clerical tasks in connection with the operation of a military unit.
056 Postal Clerk: Performs various postal duties in a miltary post office.
059 Foreman, Construction: Supervises the construction or repair of buildings, drainage systems, water works, culverts and related structures.
060 Cook: Prepares food for the personnel of a miltary organization, using a daily menu as a guide.
078 Electrician: Installs, tests, and repairs electrical fixtures, apparatus, control equipment and wiring used in connection with radio, communication, light and power systems of buildings, or other military projects.
081 Engineman, Operating: Operates and maintains gas or diesel engine and auxiliary equipment used for generating power.
114 Machinist
121 Utility Repairman: Keeps buildings and equipment of a unit or post in good repair and working order.
188 Duty Soldier II: Enlisted men who, under supervision, perform various heavy laboring duties in connection with construction and demolition work.
189 Rigger: Performs all types of rigging work on military construction, manufacturing, shipping, reclamation and other activities.

345 Truck Driver, Light: Drives autos or truck (2 1/2 ton capacity or less) to transport personnel and equipment.

533 Demolition Specialist: Destroys or makes unserviceable, by means of explosives, bridges, roads, buildings, airdromes, ammunition dumps, fuel dumps, and railways to cover retreat of retiring forces and to delay the advance of the enemy.
535 Ballon Gas Handler: Supevises, operates or assists in the operation of a gas purification unit in the manufacture of helium or hydrogen used in the inflation of ballons.
