The following account was sent to my Lynn McGuire. It
is a clipping from the "White Record", the 2nd Bn, 275th Newsletter.
It is dated August 1st, 1945.Saarbrucken Head
Captured by How
Company Member
Kurt Buhrow, the adjutant to the former
Commandant of Saarbrucken, was arrested last Sunday night in
Heushelheim by a patrol from "H" Company.
Buhrow was the organizer and adjutant of the
Volkssturm-Regiment that opposed the 275th during its long and
bitter fighting overlooking Saarbruchen. It was this man who
harangued the citizens of Saarbruchen and neighboring communities
into their fanatical army of "last ditch" resistance. To all the men
of the 275th, this man should be the most personal of all war
criminals. On his hands rest the blood of the 70th men who fell
before Saarbruchen.
Burgermeister Gave Lead
His actions aroused the interest of the
Burgermeister of Heushelheim when he attempted to apply for a ration
card. How Company was notified of his presence and sent a patrol to
interview him. 1st Sgt. Schaeffer
located him living with his family in an old house adjoining the
town's mill. Both he and his wife spoke English so the Sgt. had no
trouble getting the desired information.
Wife Joins Him
The mas had left Saarbruchen early in March
and had roamed the country in an attempt to get back to Berlin where
his father's home was. He had settled in Heushelheim just eight days
previous to his arrest, to await the arrival of his wife and
children from the Saar area. They joined him the first of the last
week and are now living in Heushelheim.
Buhrow lacked any form of registration card
so Sgt. Schaeffer picked him up tp hold for further questioning by
CIC. Monday morning he was taken to Limburg and thrown in jail
pending further investigation of his crimes.
