MAPS: EASTERN FRANCE: 1/25,000.

I. ENEMY:

a. Units in contact: No change.

b. Enemy reserves: No change.

c. Enemy activity during period: Artillery was placed on house where enemy soldiers were seen (474-703) and eight direct hits were observed. One of our OP's adjusted fire and secured direct hit on an enemy AA gun which was firing at our planes. One of our patrols fired at two or three enemy vicinity 477-679 and enemy fled. Enemy activity heard vicinity 485-667 at 2400. At 0810, train was heard at 487-701 moving East. It was made up of 34 cars plus 6 tankers and there six guns apparently AA mounted on flat cars. From 0830 - 0900, fired artillery at soldiers in and near factory at 477-697. One round landed on factory. After firing was completed, saw at least four persons being carried in factory and several others were apparently wounded. At 1315, 30-40 enemy were seen eating vicinity of 483-697. Artillery caused them to enter building. At 1300, two enemy were observed laying wire from 488-672 to 502-672. At 1620, several enemy were observed around possible OP vicinity 492-722. At 1710, three enemy were seen with horse-drawn cart vicinity 488-678 going N. Thirty six rounds of artillery were reported during the period, about half of which was estimated to be 150mm or larger. Heavy mortar fire was directed at one of our OP's during the entire period. Harassing small arms and machine gun fire was again directed toward our right front during darkness. There was also some flare activity to our front. Vehicular sounds continued to be heard. At 2000, iron wheeled vehicles pulled by horses heard in St. Arnual and St. Johann. Also, heavy vehicular traffic heard in Brebach. At 2225, train heard moving out of St. Johann toward Neuschidt. At 0222, train was heard in Saarbrucken.

d. Estimate of enemy strength: No change.

e. Plans open to enemy to affect our plans: No change.

II. OWN SITUATION

d. At 1825 Wrecker OP #2 reported that artillery had 8 direct hits on a suspected enemy CP located at 474-703. At 1200 "A" Company completed taking over "I" Co positions. During afternoon our medium tanks that were in the area moved out. One platoon light tanks came into our 3rd Bn. area at 1541. At 1530, one platoon "G" Co completed occupation of "A" Co's former postitions; one platoon "E" Co. took over one platoon "G" Co's positions. During period of report, we continued active patrolling. Throughout the entire period small arms, mortar and artillery fire fell in our area. Sector remained relatively quite.

Class I: 2724 "C" rations, 3566 "K" rations, and 1210 "10 in 1" rations on hand. 2108 "B" rations, 358 "C" rations, 442 "K" rations and 40 "10 in 1" rations issued for consumption.

Class II: T/E minus on hand. Shortages on requisition.

Class III: One (1) days supply on hand.

Class IV: Basic load on hand. Material for installations being provided as needed.

Class V: Basic load on hand.

f. Conditions of Roads: All weather roads wet and passable. Roads on MSR in process of repair.
